9-Day: Just Breathe Yoga & Meditation Retreat - a Journey of the Spirit, Ladakh

IMAGINE......high up in the shadow of the world's highest peaks is a land of mythical beauty. A land where vividly coloured mountains rise up dramatically on all sides, dwarfing the crystal rivers and shimmering glaciers which make their way through the barren terrain.

It is a land that is arid and harsh, but it is also a land that is one of the most beautiful on Earth. It is a land of warm and friendly people with a cultural heritage that is nothing short of amazing. Ladakh, exquisitely lovely and relatively unspoilt, beckons you to discover her uncharted territory.

New horizons that spell high-mountain passes, with vivid purple irises blooming against a backdrop of towering snow capped peaks and alpine meadows. Eleventh century monasteries with their strange other world charm, mesmerise and draw you into an energy charged world, a positive force which radiates outwards charging all things in her path.

The white facade of a Gompa standing on top of a lonely hill, faded prayer flags fluttering with humming prayer wheels are nothing less than riveting. The mountains painted in green, purple, orange and gold, soar into an azure sky, startlingly intense in its clarity.

Led by Radhika Vachani, the “Living Yoga & Meditation Retreats”, are an inner and outer adventure, a life-transforming experience of self-discovery and personal growth that takes you through some of the most remote and beautiful places in and around India. Contact Us

What you will experience

Sightseeing & Some Hiking - Explore. Expand. Evolve.

You will experience magical hikes and sightseeing through some of the most vivid and breathtakingly beautiful terrain, and also visit old monasteries, local markets and much more.

As you immerse yourself in these exquisite surroundings, you feel the power of the universe. You expand well beyond your perceived limitations, connecting with the subtle and magical energies of this uniquely beautiful land.

You learn to trust yourself and to surrender to the process that is unfolding, moving towards a more expanded and evolved state of being.

Yoga Asana - Balance. Ground. Align.

Your body opens through a gentle practice given the restriction of thin air and oxyfgen in Ladakh.  But given the magical surroundings, the mental noise begins to fade away. And you feel what it means to be present and awake.

In the stillness of nature, you hear your soft inner voice - your inner knowing. You are filled with a sense of wellbeing and openness.

You leave the mat to become one with nature, ready to experience an outdoor adventure. You learn to be present, to trust, and to feel the vast expanse of who you really are, one with nature and the sacred and subtle energies of the universe.

Pranayama & Meditation - Breathe. Relax. Focus

You learn to connect with your vital life force that is the very essence of your being. You learn to relax the mind, and to develop a more mindful state of being, becoming present to everything within you and around you.

As your mind learns to relax and focus, you move your gaze inwards to connect with your inner self. You experience the vast essence of who you truly are. You realize you are not an isolated being, but feel the interconnectedness to everything around you, as you become one with the magical surroundings.

Living Yoga Course - Inquire. Connect. Aspire.

You learn about the ancient science behind the practice. You discover how to implement this ancient wisdom to yourself and to your daily life.

You develop a deeper understanding of your mind, and how to work with its limitations and to go beyond the incessant noise.

As this process unfolds, you feel the most alive you have ever been in years. Inspired, you create a new vision for yourself and your dreams, forming a path for yourself that feels much more aligned with your soul.

You reclaim your CONFIDENCE, your CLARITY, your COURAGE, and your VISION.

Food - Replenish. Rejuvenate. Energize.

You enjoy local Ladakhi cuisine. Most of the population of Ladakh is engaged in agriculture activities and produce raw food for the preparation of their traditional dishes.

Vegetables such as pumpkins, potatoes, beans and beetroots are cooked in different ways. Thukpa and Skyu (made of wheat flour), khambir (local bread) and Pava (made of sattu) are the staple food of the people of Ladakh. Varieties such as Tsampa, Cholak, Thukpa, and Mok-Mok are also the speciality of the Ladakhi Cuisine.

This Retreat can be customized to fit group needs, and can also be run on most dates during the season for groups of 10 persons or more.

About the Local Region

Ladakh has been given many sobriquets: vivid, beautiful, unbelievable, moon land, little Tibet, the land of passes. They all describe the land but not adequately, and nothing quite prepares the traveller for the completely ethereal yet harsh beauty of Ladakh. Ladakh is often called 'Little Tibet' and because it lies north of the Himalaya's, it receives little rainfall. The stark and dramatic scenery - deep gorges, alluvial fans, contorted strata, and large Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, flat-topped mud-brick houses in oasis-like villages, snow-capped mountains and grand distances fill the vivid sceneries.

Ladakh means "land of high passes", and is a region in the Indian Administered Jammu and Kashmir that currently extends from the Kuen Lunmountain range to the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by people Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Jammu and Kashmir and its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet. Rock carvings found in many parts of Ladakh indicate that the area has been inhabited from Neolithic times.

In the past, Ladakh gained importance from its strategic location at the crossroads of important trade routes, but since the Chinese authorities closed the borders with Tibet and Central Asia in the 1960s, international trade has dwindled except for tourism. Since 1974, the Government of India has successfully encouraged tourism in Ladakh. The largest town in Ladakh is Leh followed by Kargil. Almost half of Ladakhis are Shia Muslims and the rest are mostly Tibetan Buddhists.

Radhika Vachani

Radhika Vachani is an Author, a Motivational Speaker and also the Founder of Yogacara Healing Arts.

A devoted student of the Iyengar School of Yoga for 15+ years, Radhika quit her successful corporate career to start Yogacara in 2010, after having experienced life-transforming changes with the practice of Iyengar Yoga. She began Yogacara with the intention of enhancing human wellness and spreading the authentic practices of Yoga and Ayurveda.

The Living Yoga and Meditation Retreats are a life transforming experience that takes a student through fundamental aspects of both the physical, and also the life practice of Yoga. Radhika's teachings are about developing a strong, healthy and alert mind and body, through muscle awakening, body opening and breathing practices. She also supports her students extend their practice beyond the walls of the studio and into daily life, living yoga as a life practice.

HOW DO WE FIND PEACE, PERMANENCE AND CERTAINTY IN A WORLD THAT IS, BY ITS VERY NATURE, IMPERMANENT, UNCERTAIN AND VOLATILE?

The reality is that we experience our entire lives through our minds-all our experiences of pain and pleasure, satisfaction and dissatisfaction stem from right here. If we are to live more happy and fulfilling lives, then we must do what is needed to bring order to our minds, and make it a fit instrument with which to manoeuvre this world.

In this Retreat, participants will also develop greater knowledge of the Yoga Sutras, the essential instruction behind the practice of Yoga, that describes the power of the human mind as it achieves greater stillness. Students will develop greater awareness of their minds, while also experiencing simple, practical breathing and meditation techniques, if practised daily, will significantly enhance one's ability to be more present and mindful, while learning how to deal with all of life’s circumstances more skillfully.

The Living Yoga & Meditation Retreats are based on key concepts of Radhika's book, Just Breathe available on Amazon.com.
